Intentionality

January 30, 2023

How many years have you had the best intention to set a goal (resolution) for the New Year or month of January only to find within a few days, maybe you made it a week, that you had already given up on that goal.  If you are like me, this is an annual event of having the best intentions yet unable to fulfill them.

Experience has taught me the best way to achieve a goal is to follow, with strict intention, the plan. As a runner, specifically a marathon runner, I train most effectively with a printed training plan.  In the past I have used a free training plan from a well recognized coach and I have also hired a coach to provide me specific training.  Both have positive attributes, but the common lesson I learned from both is consistent training and following the schedule….being intentional to the training. That is how I get stronger, faster and set new PR’s (personal records).

How I handle my finances is no different than my marathon training; using a combination of lessons learned over my life.  It is up to ME to know how much money I bring into the house a month, where I spend it and how much I choose to save.  I must be intentional as to how closely I monitor my spending and the accumulation of my savings for the future.

Think about it….if I don’t monitor it, who will?

I’m not saying you must track it every day, but if you are in a situation where your budget is tight, then yes, you may need to pay close attention to your spending daily.  Weekly and even monthly intentionality is key to meeting and exceeding my goals.  And when you achieve your savings goal or save for that trip or vacation, be intentional about enjoying it!

Each year we receive a fresh start to set goals and realign our purpose.  Rather than repeat old habits, take a step that will give you best opportunity for success.  Don’t set a resolution.  Modify your habit by being intentional with your finances.  Small changes will produce results.

“When you live each day with intentionality, there’s almost no limit to what you can do. You can transform yourself, your family, your community, and your nation.:
