Perspective

Isn't it funny how we can let the overwhelming stream of of information influence our perspective and attitude?   If you are like me, you find yourself drawn to the local or national new stations, particularly the business, economic and stock market channels and try to absorb the non-stop influx of information that is available every day.  What usually happens is a negative response, anxious or irritated, response to the days news or the top story.

Why do I let this information change my perspective of my current situation?  Many times, this news does not have a direct impact on my life or even my future plans, yet I can be very worried or anxious about the news.

How I process information and handle the data impacts my emotions and ultimately my happiness.  Being aware of my reaction allows me to take a step back and access if my current reaction is valid or if it is just a reaction to something that really does not directly impact my situation.   Learning how to be more thoughtful about my reaction and knowing that I can only control how I process the information, and normally can't control the outcome of the news, allows me to change my perspective and keep a more accurate view of how the news applies to me.

If you have found that financial news has been hard for you to understand and deal with, maybe its your perspective of the data?  By understanding how the data applies, you can then determine the level of importance to you.  Finding an advocate to work with that will help you understand the numbers and how it relates to your current and future situation.

I have learned we can not always change our situation, but we can modify our perspective of how we handle the situation.  If you need to change your financial perspective, talking with a financial planner might help.
